RAEX induces structural remodelling of rat intramural coronary arterioles resulting—among others—in reduced wall stress due to increased wall thickness (as shown in the figure), but also increased incremental distensibility, decreased incremental tangential elastic modulus. These changes allow a greater constrictor and dilator range for the coronary arterioles to operate.
