(a) The γS-crystallin AVHLPSGGQYK peptide is found to be deamidated in 72-year-old human lens tissue, yielding a broad peak at ~54 minutes. (b) The full MS are identical, however the RDD fragmentation patterns differ from the leading and trailing edge of the peak, indicating coeluting isomers. Notably, the −59E and −72E Glu side chain losses are absent in the leading edge of the peak but appear in the trailing edge.
