Schematic diagram of Piezo1 channel activation by mechanical force. The Piezo1 channel is a trimeric structure located in the plasma membrane. The mechanical force exerted on the cell membrane causes the opening of the Piezo1 channel, leading to the influx of extracellular Ca2+ and transducing mechanical signals into electrical and chemical signals in the cell.
