C2C12 cells or H9C2 cells were seeded in 24-well plates. When cells reached 80% confluency, simvastatin was added to cells to 10 μM in a reversed time scale, so that the metabolic activity can be measured by MTT assay at the same time (A, B), and caspase activity can be measured at the same time using DEVD-AMC as the substrate (C, D). The results are from one experiment representative of three and are expressed as means ± standard deviation (SD) from triplicates. Statistical significance is indicated as described in Fig 1.
