Magnesium reimport is important for osmoadaptation. (A) Expression of MgtE partially rescues the lag in osmoadaptation in ΔmpfA mutants. (B and C) Supplementation of 60 mM KCl increases the lag in osmoadaptation in both WT and ΔmpfA cells. Supplementation of an equal osmolarity (40 mM) of MgCl2 suppresses the lag in osmoadaptation in both WT and ΔmpfA cells.
