Why carry out this study?
The risk of herpes zoster (HZ) and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), the most common complication (in 10–18% of patients), increases with age.
This study explored the impact of HZ and PHN on the health-related quality of life of adults ≥ 50 years old in Canada.
What was learned from the study?
HZ and PHN have a negative impact on the quality of life of patients, especially during the acute phase of the disease.
The conceptual model may help healthcare professionals better understand the subjective patient experience of HZ and PHN.
