Mean ± SE safety margin as a function of push force in lateral pinch for the aluminum and rubber surfaces. Safety margins (voluntary grip force – minimum required grip force) are normalized to each subject’s grip strength. Push forces are normalized to each subject’s push strength. The five different push forces correspond to 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% of maximum push force for each grip surface. The regression line is for both aluminum and rubber surfaces.
