Spectroscopic optical properties of Orbicella faveolata and Ostreobium spp. Comparison of the estimated in vivo light absorption spectra of the coral Orbicella faveolata (orange solid line) and that of the chlorophyte endolithic algae Ostreobium spp. (green solid line) living within the coral skeleton of this species. The spectrum of Ostreobium spp. was obtained after removing the coral tissue with water and pressurized air. Absorption spectra were normalized to the maximum peak of absorption of Chla in the red band of the spectrum. Top panel represents second derivative analysis of the absorption spectra.
