Bb strains differed in the levels of cell adhesion in a robin and/or white-footed (WF) mouse-specific manner. Spirochete strains (2 × 106 spirochetes) were incubated with fibroblasts (2 × 105 cells) from robins and WF mice, stained by anti-Bb antibodies and 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) and counted microscopically from four determinations at 1 h post incubation (hpi).
