Cleavage of the substrate DNAs was assessed semiquantitatively for each enzyme. The designations indicate the extent of cleavage at a molar ratio of nuclease to recognition sites of approximately 1:1. +++, 70 to 100% cleavage; ++, 20 to 50% cleavage; +, 5 to 10% cleavage; ±, barely detectable cleavage; −, no cleavage. pQT40 was tested only with L18.
