Thalamic neurons in the MGB project to the ipsilateral AC are connected directly onto CS-L4 neurons or indirectly with a disynaptic feedforward inhibitory circuit involving local parvalbumin neurons. CS-L4 neurons project to the ipsilateral striatum, sending direct excitatory inputs onto local spiny projection neurons and local inhibitory neurons, which in turn can inhibit neighboring spiny projection neurons in a disynaptic feedforward inhibitory circuit.
