After injection into saline, Onyx flows outwardly like lava, while solidifying from outside to inside (Onyx 18 shown here). Onyx is delivered in 1.5 mL vials together with a vial of dimethyl-sulfoxide (DMSO) and with DMSO-compatible syringes. After shaking of 20 min or longer and flushing the microcatheter with DMSO, Onyx can be injected via the syringe-catheter interface adapter
