Low-dose 1,3-butanediol (1,3-BD) treatment does not increase circulating β-hydroxybutyrate (βHB). βHB was measured in serum from young and old Wistar-Kyoto rats treated with either vehicle or 1,3-BD (5%) for 4 wk.
