Zones of peroneal tendon pathology. Areas of peroneal tendon pathology are traditionally classified into zones. These zones were initially described by Brandes and Smith for peroneus longus tendinopathies but have since been used to describe both peroneus longus and brevis pathology. Zone A represents the area under the superior peroneal retinaculum, zone B the area under the inferior retinaculum, and zone C the cuboid notch.
