Fig. 3. Sugar feeding attenuates male’s courtship intensity toward females via ILP2 signaling.

Fig. 3.

(A and B) Ilp21 mutant males maintained high courtship intensity after sugar feeding. Courtship index and single-wing extension number of indicated D.mel males (C.S., ilp21/+ control and Ilp21 mutant) toward w1118 virgin females were quantified. N = 9 to 15 in each group of (A) and n = 5 to 14 in each group of (B). (C and D) Courtship intensity after sugar feeding in males with InR knockdown in P1 neurons. Courtship index and single-wing extension number of indicated D.mel males toward w1118 virgin females were quantified. InR was specifically suppressed in P1 neurons using R71G01-Gal4. Males were fed with 100 mM fructose. N = 8 to 14 in each group of (C) and n = 7 to 12 in each group of (D). One-way ANOVA followed by Dunnett’s test for multiple comparisons (A and B) and two-way ANOVA followed by Dunnett’s multiple comparisons test (C and D) were used for statistical significance assessment. Statistical differences were represented as follows: *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01, and ****P < 0.0001. Data were represented as means ± SEM.
