a

Sterile SDS stocks (40 times the treatment concentration) were added to virus aliquots to achieve the treatment concentration. After mixing, the samples were incubated at 37°C for 10 min.

b

Following SDS treatment, virus stocks were diluted 100-fold and 1-ml aliquots were immediately adsorbed onto CV-1 cells. Plaques were counted after 20 to 24 h of infection. Each number represents an average for two plates.

Data are values from five experiments.
