Metformin decreases ETC complexes activity in FLVCR1a-silenced cells. Activities of the mitochondrial electron transport chain complexes I–IV in H23 cells untreated (NT) and treated with 2.5 mM metformin for 24 or 48 h. FLVCR1a-silenced H23 cells are compared with cells expressing a scramble shRNA. Results were expressed as nmol of NAD+/min/mg of mitochondrial protein for complex I (A), nmol of reduced cytochrome c/min/mg of mitochondrial protein for complexes II–III (B,C), and nmol of oxidized cytochrome c/min/mg of mitochondrial protein for complex IV (D).
