Schematic diagram of the chromosomal positions and domain structures of human SOX transcriptional factors. SOX family members are classified into eight subgroups based on the degree of sequence identity of the HMG motif, which is an evolutionarily conserved DNA-binding motif and is also a representative signature of the SOX family. Besides the shared HMG motif, different SOX members have their specific structure domains to achieve functional diversity.
