Peritumoral sentinel node detection using near-infrared light. An indocyanine green positive sentinel node (indicated by the white circle), located in distal paraesophageal station 8 near the injection site, is detected during the thoracic phase of surgery. This sentinel node was not identified preoperatively on imaging, nor was it detected intraoperatively with the gammaprobe because of the high background radioactivity around the injection site
