Immunohistochemical (a) and mRNA (b) expression of NOS2 in normal and mutant retinas. (a) At a young age, NOS2 is expressed (red fluorescence) mainly in the GCL in normal and mutant retinas (A, D, G, J). At the time of active degeneration (E, H, K), immunolabeling intensity increases and is more intense in the nuclear and plexiform layers. This decreases after photoreceptor degeneration has progressed, and labeling is mainly restricted to the GCL (F, I, L). DAPI (blue) nuclear stain.
