BW: body weight; SBP: systolic blood pressure; HR: heart rate; LV: weight of the left heart ventricle; TL: tibia length; LV/TL: ratio of weight of the left heart ventricle to tibia length; LV/BW: ratio of weight of the left heart ventricle to body weight; WKY-7, WKY-20, and WKY-52: 7-week-old, 20-week-old, and 52-week-old Wistar-Kyoto rats; SHR-7, SHR-20, and SHR-52: 7-week-old, 20-week-old, and 52-week-old spontaneously hypertensive rats. The results are presented as the mean ± SEM of n = 9–14 rats, and differences between groups were analyzed by two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with the Bonferroni post hoc test on ranks. p < 0.05 vs. WKY at the same age (WKY-7 vs. SHR-7, WKY-20 vs. SHR-20, and WKY-52 vs. SHR-52), +p < 0.05 vs. 7-week group of the same phenotype (WKY-20 vs. WKY-7, SHR-20 vs. SHR-7, WKY-52 vs. WKY-7, and SHR-52 vs. SHR-7), xp < 0.05 vs. 20-week group of the same phenotype (WKY-52 vs. WKY-20 and SHR-52 vs. SHR-20).
