Overview of the experimental setup, consisting of fabric treatment (Part 1), outdoor exposure of the textile fabrics (Part 2), and application of abrasion and washing (Part 3). All three experiments were subjected to comprehensive characterization including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), combustion ion chromatography (CIC), high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry or high-resolution mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS or HPLC-HRMS), and the total oxidizable precursor (TOP) assay. Additional changes of material properties were examined by measuring the water repellency (method: spray test) and the color change (method: gray scale).
