A left inferior view illustrating the pubovisceral muscle (PVM), which originates behind the pubic bone and forms the most distal portion of the levator ani muscle. It is particularly stretched late in the second stage of labor as the fetal head is driven by strong 2–3 maternal pushes, at three minutes intervals, through the birth canal to crown.
