Symptom grading scale used in this study

| 0 | No visible symptoms; CaCV-inoculated plants show growth and development similar to that of mock-inoculated plants |
| 1 | Slight yellowing of the inoculated leaf; development similar to that of mock-inoculated plants |
| 2 | Some chlorotic spots in less than 50% of the inoculated leaf area; development similar to that of mock-inoculated plants |
| 3 | Chlorotic spots and/or interveinal chlorosis in more than 50% of the inoculated leaf area; no symptoms on systemic leaves |
| 4 | Chlorotic spots and/or interveinal chlorosis in more than 50% of the inoculated leaf area; yellowing starting to show on leaves right above the inoculated ones |
| 5 | Chlorotic spots, leaf curling and rugose appearance on systemic leaves; reduction in plant development |
