The average fluorescence lifetimes were calculated based on the relative area of the DASs colored red and blue in figure 5, whereas the ∼1 ns lifetime attributed to PSII core fluorescence was not taken into account. The standard deviation is provided based on three measurements; the stroma lamellae membranes were isolated twice form different batches of plants. One set of samples was measured twice on different days and the other set was measured once. The difference in lifetimes between State 1 and State 2 was calculated based on one set of measurements and then averaged for the three replicates. Excitation was at 400 nm.
