Control and case sample numbers are reported as the total sample number and, in parentheses, the number of samples misclassified. All other statistics including sensitivity specificity, PPV, NPV and AUROC are reported as the estimated percentage followed by the 90% CI in square brackets. In Del Vecchio1, the control group is defined as samples from any pregnant mother who did not develop preeclampsia, including those with other underlying or pregnancy-related complications such as chronic hypertension or gestational diabetes, respectively. In Del Vecchio2, the control group is defined as samples strictly from normotensive pregnant mothers who did not experience complications.
