MCU expression is upregulated by the β-AR/CaMKIIδB/CREB pathway to maintain cytosolic Ca2+ and energy homeostasis in the heart. Phosphorylation at T287 increased the kinase activity of CaMKIIδB and de-phosphorylation at S332 triggered its nuclear translocation, both of which are needed for MCU gene upregulation.
