Molecular role of Cdc48Ufd1/Npl4 segregase in removal of mislocalized Cse4 from non-centromeric regions. Defects in several pathways contribute to mislocalization of Cse4 to non-centromeric regions and CIN. We propose that Psh1 contributes to polyubiquitination of mislocalized Cse4 and this facilitates the interaction between polyubiquitinated Cse4 and Cdc48Ufd1/Npl4 segregase complex via Npl4, resulting in the removal of Cse4 from non-centromeric regions for proteasomal degradation.
