Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) spectra of depth interaction at 15 kV electron accelerating voltage depending on the different elements. While carbon, oxygen, and fluoride signals originate from a very superficial layer (most of the signal comes from the first 600 nm), the information of all other elements comes from a much thicker layer where most information comes from the first 1200 nm. This distribution has to be kept in mind when analyzing the elemental compositions of the remineralized layers having a thickness of 200 to 300 nm (Fig. 5).
