Suppression of the TNFα-induced NF-κB transcriptional activation by South (A,B) and South versus North (C,D) mp and p fractions of Chios mastiha tree leaves, in HEK293 cells. Luciferase and β-galactosidase activity was measured in cell extracts from HEK293 cells cultured in hormone-depleted medium, transiently co-transfected with an NF-κB-Luc reporter gene construct and a β-galactosidase reporter construct and subsequently treated with 5–100 μg/mL leaves fractions and/or 20 ng/mL TNFα, for 6 h. Control cells were treated with DMSO (1:1000). Relative luciferase activity was expressed as normalized luciferase activity against β-galactosidase activity.
