Schematic representation of the main diffusion model parameters. Within the diffusion model, the decision-making process is represented as a noisy evidence accumulation process originating from a starting point, z, towards one of two decision bounds (e.g., “left” and “right” directions in the motion tasks used in this study). Boundary separation, a, reflects the distance between the two bounds, indexing response caution. Drift-rate, v, is the rate of evidence accumulation.
