Fig. 9 — Card transactions in Rio de Janeiro: 2019 and 2020. Notes. The figure shows the evolution of the weekly value of credit card transactions in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. The figure plots two periods for comparison: January 01 and 31 July 2019, and January 01 and 31 July 2020. The value is normalized to 1 in the first week of January of each year. Credit card transaction data stem from one of Brazil’s largest banks, which has a large market share in many indicators, including assets and the number of credit card customers (more than one-third of the market share). The transaction data is aggregated to the municipality-week level. The first non-pharmaceutical intervention (NPI) in Rio de Janeiro was on March 11, 2020.
