The first five pentamers can be placed on sites that maximize both the number of available pentamer-pentamer contacts and pentamer-spanning tree link contacts (four). The sixth pentamer, shown separately with a different perspective, makes three pentamer-pentamer contacts but can only make two spanning tree link contacts.
