Alcohol exposure and iron induced maternal hepcidin but minimally affected fetal hepcidin. Hepcidin mRNA content was quantified in maternal (a) and fetal (b) livers at gestational day 20.5. n = 8–9 litters per group, sampling 1 dam, 1 male, and 1 female per litter. Individual points show the values for individual animals, and bars show the group means ± standard error. Maternal data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc test, and fetal data were analyzed by mixed linear model and Tukey’s post hoc test.
