Inhibition of SMYD2 in Calu-3 cells slightly impedes SARS-CoV-2 replication. (A,B) Antiviral effect of AZ505 and BAY598 in Calu-3 cells. Cells were treated with the indicated concentrations for 24 h prior to infection. The same amount of inhibitor was also applied together with the virus (MOI = 0.005). SARS-CoV-2 positive cells were visualized two days post-infection using a mAb against Spike and an Alexa488-conjugated secondary antibody under a Nikon Inverted Ts2-FL Eclipse microscope equipped with a 10× objective.
