Schematic representation of the approach to transiently produce viral antigens in N. benthamiana. Upon selection of the appropriate target viral protein (e.g., the spike protein from SARS-CoV-2), codon-optimized synthetic DNA fragments coding for the viral protein are cloned into an expression vector, Agrobacteria are transformed, and the bacterial suspension is infiltrated into leaves of N. benthamiana.
