Mean HERV expression was highest in the A172 cell line (A), and HML6 is uniquely overexpressed in the A172 and M059J cell lines. However, HML6 expression was an order of magnitude higher in A172 relative to expression in M059J (B). Mean number of methylation sites, expressed as CpG islands, was lowest in the A172 cell line (C). Correspondingly, we found a significant inverse correlation between methylation (beta value) and log2 fold change (log2FC) in HERV expression across all investigated cell lines (D).
