Overall and independent relevance of BMI to vascular-metabolic mortality at ages 40–74. Analyses, conventions and exclusions as for Figures 1 and 2. One SD usual BMI was 4.3 kg/m2. Independent relevance of BMI to vascular-metabolic mortality was assessed after mutual adjustment for waist-hip ratio. Among those with baseline BMI >25 kg/m2, the RR per 1 SD higher usual BMI was 1.36 (1.28–1.43) before mutual adjustment for WHR and 1.32 (1.25–1.40) after.
