In normal conditions, microglial GPR56 regulates microglia density, ramification, and cytokine release. Deletion or MIA-induced down-regulation of microglial Gpr56 leads to elevated microglial TNFα, which results in MGE proliferation deficits at mid-/late-stage neurogenesis, PV+ interneuron reduction in the neocortex, and autism-like behaviors in adult mice.
