Discomfort scores to mechanical and heat stimuli applied to the cheek. The mechanical stimuli were produced by application of von-Frey type filaments with indentation forces (and tip diameters) of 0.23 mN (67 µm) and 2, 10 and 20 mN (100µm). Heat stimuli were applied by a thermode preheated to the indicated temperature. Each stimulus was applied prior to and 24 h following removal of NPs.
