By backcrossing NOD mice to B10.A(4R), the thyroiditis-prone H2h4 MHC locus from chromosome 17 of the parental B10.A(4R) mouse has been selected at each backcross generation to replace in the NOD-derived H2g7 MHC locus, resulting in the NOD.H2h4 congenic mouse.
