(A) Liver tissue from db/+ and db/db mice treated with a control ASO or an ASO against ATF4 were used to assess gene expression (n = 8) and obtain lysates for western blotting for ALT2 and tubulin (n = 3).

(B) Expression of the indicated ATF4 target genes in obese subjects during (pre; n = 7) and 6 months after (post; n = 7) bariatric surgery. Data are presented as mean ± SD. *p ≤ 0.05 for pre versus post.

(C) Hepatocytes isolated from lean C57BL/6J mice were pretreated with a control ASO or an ASO against ATF4 for 24 h were treated with the ER stress-inducing agent tunicamycin (Tuni) or vehicle control (DMSO) for 6 h, after which gene expression was assessed (n = 11).
