To estimate plot-scale ${\epsilon }_{\mathit{plot}}$, surface-air temperature difference ($\mathrm{\Delta }T$) is computed from observed longwave radiation ($R_{\mathit{lup}}$ and $R_{\mathit{ldwn}}$) and $T_a$ for given ${\epsilon }_{\mathit{plot}}$, and then ${\epsilon }_{\mathit{plot}}$ is varied in a way to minimise RMSE of a linear relationship between observed sensible heat flux (H) and $\mathrm{\Delta }T$. The resulting surface temperatures ($T_{\mathit{leq}},T_{\mathit{seq}}$) are then compared to $T_{\mathit{MODIS}}$, with the $R^2$, RMSE, and bias reported in Fig. (3).
