The two experimental blocks were similar but used different CS+/CS- pairs of Gabor patches and different UCS- TYPES (phobia-related (magenta) vs. phobia-unrelated (cyan)). The order of blocks was counterbalanced across all patients. B) Stimulus sequence during the fear conditioning phase in a phobia-related block. The stimuli were presented repeatedly. While the CS- (blue) served as a safety- signal and never predicted the UCS, the CS+ (red) predicted the UCS in 33% of the cases.
