Retinal GFAP (glial fibrillary acidic protein) and pERK (phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated kinase) 1/2 after unilateral ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) and H2S inhalation. Cell nuclei were counterstained with DAPI (4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole). Exposure to H2S led to an increase in phosphorylation of ERK1/2 after IRI, mainly in the inner nuclear layer (Scale bar, 50 µm; GCL, ganglion cell layer; INL, inner nuclear layer; ONL, outer nuclear layer). The white arrows indicate ERK1/2 phosphorylation in the INL.
