The model calculates the intake (Ning), growth (Nint) and excretion (Nfec) of ESBL in the pen for each day (j) and chick (i). The survival of excreted ESBL (Nfec) in the amount of feces (Matfec) is calculated and, thus, so is the contamination of the litter mixed with feces (Matpen). These resistant bacteria present in the pen (Nlit) can, in turn, be picked up by the chickens.
