Table 3.

- Corelation between unexpland IDA and positive H. pylori status in males and females.

IDA with positive H. pylori status (n=49)
Parameter of the hematology indexes Male (n=18) Female (n=31) P-value
RBC (4.2–5.1 ×106/μL) 3.66 ± 0.26 3.36 ± 0.31 0.001
Hemoglobin (12–15 g/dL) 10.4 ± 1.62 8.9 ± 1.34 0.001
HCT (36-52%) 34.9 ± 2.4 32.0 ± 3.10 0.001
MCV (80-98 ft) 75.79 ± 3.91 72.32± 3.27 0.001
MCH (28-34 pg) 23.74 ± 1.98 21.38 ± 2.40 0.001
Serum iron (40-165 μg/dL) 29.63 ± 6.46 24.18 ± 4.97 0.001
Ferritin (13-280 ng/dL) 7.8 ± 1.21 6.35 ± 1.54 0.001

There was a significant correlation between male and female IDA cases with positive H. pylori with regard to all hematological parameters (p=0.001). Serum iron concentration and serum ferritin levels were significantly lower in female H. pylori-positive IDA patients than in male H. pylori-positive IDA patients (p=0.001).
