Collection sites of faecal samples in the Darwin and Katherine regions in which Burkholderia pseudomallei and B. cepacia complex (Bcc) spp. were detected. Most samples in this study were collected at hobby farms outside Darwin in a previously rural area which has undergone significant population growth in recent years. One site elicited B. pseudomallei, Bcc spp. and Pandoraea spp. in different wallaby scats, and B. pseudomallei and B. cepacia were identified at a nearby site in wallaby and horse faeces. Opportunistic sampling in 2010 and 2012 (dark blue) identified B. pseudomallei in five wallaby scats collected near Darwin and Katherine. The inset map shows the location of Darwin in Australia.
