Hair cortisol significantly mediated the association between exposure to stressful life experiences and FA in the parahippocampal cingulum. Higher negative life experience scores were associated with higher HCC, which in turn was associated with higher FA in the parahippocampal cingulum. The dotted line between exposure to stressful life experiences and parahippocampal cingulum FA represents the total effect (c), while the solid line represented the direct effect after accounting for the mediated or indirect effect (c’).
