hc-siRNA expression across chromosomes in Solanaceae. Normalized read counts displayed as reads per million (RPM) for 24-nt TE-associated hc-siRNAs are plotted across the assembled chromosomes for tobacco, tomato, potato, and pepper. The x-axis represents the chromosome number, alternating between gray and black, and the y-axis represents the average number of reads at each chromosome position. The average read number was calculated based on the number of available libraries for each species. The majority of hc-siRNAs map outside of the pericentromeric regions. Unexpectedly, potato accumulates a low proportion of 24-nt hc-siRNAs relative to total sRNAs.
